Job Description

We are excited to be partnering with a dynamic and rapidly expanding food and beverage manufacturer at the forefront of industry innovation. They are currently seeking a Packaging Automation Engineer to lead the technical execution of aseptic packaging operations at their cutting-edge facility located in Upstate New York. This role is critical in providing daily technical support for packaging control systems while also driving strategic technical initiatives. The Packaging Automation Engineer will report directly to the Engineering & Reliability Manager.

Location: Greater Rochester, NY (Relocation assistance available)

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage process technology enhancements, troubleshoot control systems, and develop engineering solutions to complex technical challenges.
• Serve as the subject matter expert for packaging automation systems, including controls infrastructure and components.
• Drive continuous improvement in packaging control systems through Advanced Process Control, Alarm Management, and Operator Interface Optimization.
• Oversee integration and support of PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, Servo Drives, and related process control systems.
• Train operators and technical staff on new or modified control systems.
• Standardize control system designs and documentation, including operational procedures, schematics, and as-built logic.
• Act as the primary contact for start-up and commissioning efforts with external contractors and systems integrators.
• Ensure thorough documentation and training following any system updates or changes.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, including PLC programs, SCADA systems, schematics, and functional descriptions.
• Collaborate with project teams to validate that automation requirements are met in design phases.
• Troubleshoot and resolve packaging automation issues.
• Lead automation-related improvement projects.
• Mentor and support Instrumentation & Controls Technicians.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related technology field (required).
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in manufacturing automation.
• Proficient in PLC logic development/modification (Rockwell preferred), VFDs, and network switches.
• Experience with CAD or SolidWorks for updating P&IDs and technical drawings.
• Strong analytical skills in redesigning operations and developing effective automation strategies.
• Industrial automation technician training is a plus.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work across cross-functional teams.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Skilled in assessing and addressing training and development needs.
• Familiarity with computer-based systems used in quality assurance, maintenance, and ERP.
• Physically able to stand for long durations, occasionally lift up to 40 lbs, and work at heights up to 75 feet.
• Comfortable in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and evolving work environment.
• Knowledge of USDA, state, and federal dairy manufacturing regulations is a plus.
