Summary

The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant will assist speech-language pathologists in the assessment and treatment of speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders, implement speech and language programs or activities as planned and directed by speech-language pathologists, and monitor the use of alternative communication devices and systems.

Education and/or Experience

A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university including completion of 24 semester hours as specified by the Board from a Council for Higher Education accredited institution is necessary.

Broward Children's Center covers the cost of continuing education units (CEUs) for its employees for one year.

Qualifications

Essential Functions

  1. Implements treatment plans or protocols as directed by speech-language pathologists.
  2. Documents residents/students' progress toward meeting established treatment objectives.
  3. Assists speech-language pathologists in the remediation or development of speech and language skills.
  4. Performs support duties such as preparing materials, keeping records, maintaining supplies, and scheduling activities.
  5. Collects and compiles data to document resident/students' performance and to assess program quality.
  6. Selects and/or prepares speech-language instructional materials.
  7. Assists speech-language pathologists in the conduct of client screenings and assessments of language, voice, fluency, articulation, and hearing.
  8. Tests and maintains equipment to ensure performance.
  9. Conducts in-service training sessions and family and community education programs.
  10. Prepares charts, graphs, and other visual displays to communicate residents/students' performance information.
  11. Assists speech-language pathologists in the conduct of speech-language research projects
  12. Provide guidance and treatment via tele practice to students, patients, and clients who are selected by the supervising SLP as appropriate for this service delivery model.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Current Florida Speech Language Pathology License
  • HIV AID / HIPAA Certification
  • CPR/First Aid Certification

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and safety manuals, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
