JOB SUMMARY

Treatment of athletes of all ages, abilities, and sports. Prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical injuries, as well as addressing the emotional and mental aspects of injuries. Skilled in the treatment of sprains, strains, contusions, abrasions, lacerations, dislocations, various chronic injuries, and fractures. Measure, examine, analyze and/or provide instruction to determine or evaluate the components of physical fitness to healthy and/or (ill health) diseased individuals. To assist in improving the components of physical fitness and promoting the prevention of disease and disability. Establish communications with athletic director, school employees, coaches, parents, and medical professionals. Assists with the development and organization of individual and group rehabilitation programs. The Athletic Trainer is responsible for coordinating all on-site sports medicine coverage, taping, pre-season and post-season physical screenings, injury clinics, athletic training room management, and budgeting of training supplies. Responsible for being knowledgeable of the standard of practice for athletic training in a school and outpatient rehabilitation setting, and the regulations established by the payers.

Demonstrates critical thinking to ensure safe, quality care to adolescents and adult clients. Responsible for excelling in courteous and respectful customer service at all times to every customer. Ensures the safety of all customers. Effectively communicates with all customers. Effectively communicates & collaborates with other healthcare team members and between intra/inter departments, adheres to organizational policy and procedures, abides by regulatory/accrediting body requirements, and professional practice standards. Assists with the daily operations and collecting statistics within the affiliate strength and conditioning program. Responsible for completing in a timely manner, all assigned tasks and duties utilizing multi-tasking skills. Responsible for assuring the confidentiality of customer information and departmental information.

 

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Cover all school-sanctioned athletic practices and competitions according to a schedule directed by the athletic director and agreed upon by the athletic trainer to properly care for the athletes, including taping, injury assessments, and treatment.
  • Consults with proper healthcare team members about the care of the athletes.
  • Completes/ obtains Health history questionnaires and assessment of the injuries associated with athletes, musculoskeletal system, and/or cardio-respiratory system using exercise equipment, exercise test protocols, exercise programs, and risk factor modification and/or measurements.
  • Evaluate/re-evaluate client’s response to exercise, progress, and expected outcomes.
  • Provides athletes with teaching and support regarding injuries, concussion management, exercise fitness, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, etc.
  • Provides athletes and parents/guardians with relevant health care education and instruction regarding procedures and goals.
  • Develops exercise and rehabilitation plans of care.
  • Maintains client’s records and accurately documents aspects of care.
  • Uses professional knowledge to develop fitness and rehabilitation programs according to department guidelines and criteria. 
  • Assist school officials with tasks that improve the safety and well-being of all athletes.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians and other health care practitioners so that athletes can receive better care.
  • Input data to record athletes’ functional outcomes in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Assist with the implementation of injury clinics, sports physicals, pre-season functional movement screenings, and concussion management.
  • Assist with establishing policies and procedures, facility organization, and risk management for the facility and staff associated with Athletic Training.
  • Inquire about and document all injuries to ensure the athlete's safety. Compose a program regarding such injuries in accordance with athletic training standards and ensure the athlete understands the program.

 

Requirements Include

  • Graduate of an accredited program for athletic trainers, with a bachelor's degree in athletic training or equivalent required.
  • Certified Athletic Trainer required
  • Current CPR certificate required
