Chief Estimator – Commercial Carpentry

Full-Time | Employee-Owned Company

A well-established, employee-owned commercial carpentry subcontractor is seeking an experienced Chief Estimator to join its preconstruction team.

This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, strategic thinker who thrives in a fast-paced, team-focused environment. The Lead Estimator will oversee the takeoff and bidding process for large-scale commercial projects, ensuring accurate, competitive proposals across a wide range of scopes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the estimating process for scopes including metal framing, drywall, taping, rough and finish carpentry, doors/frames/hardware, and specialty trades
• Perform detailed digital quantity takeoffs
• Analyze drawings, specs, and other bid documents to define scope and cost drivers
• Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and vendor pricing
• Prepare comprehensive bid proposals for both negotiated and competitive bid opportunities
• Coordinate with project managers and field teams to ensure a smooth project handoff
• Maintain historical pricing data and unit cost libraries
• Attend pre-bid meetings, site walkthroughs, and client calls as needed
• Support and mentor junior estimating team members

Qualifications:

• 5–10+ years of experience estimating commercial construction projects, with a strong focus on carpentry trades
• Proficient in digital takeoff and estimating software (e.g., PlanSwift, OST, Bluebeam)
• Strong knowledge of construction assemblies and project documentation
• Ability to manage multiple bids with competing deadlines
• Clear, confident communicator with strong organizational skills
• Familiarity with union labor environments and production rates is a plus
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related field preferred
